50 Teams Set to Compete at Wings Stadium and Wings West This Weekend

Kalamazoo, MI- Wings Stadium, which is also home to The Annex and The Cube, announces the complex will host the Annual Labatt Blue USAdult Hockey Classic, a sanction USA Hockey tournament, this weekend, staring on Friday, May 18th.

The three-day tournament will feature a field of 50 teams from across the Midwest. The 50-team field marks the largest tournament ever to be held exclusively at the Wings Stadium Complex and Wings West.

Featuring multiple divisions, the Labatt Blue USAdult Hockey Classic will start on Friday and will end on Sunday, May 20th after the completion of each division’s championship game.

While each division will have a champion, the real winner could be the Kalamazoo community. With a field of 50 teams expected, the tournament will have a sizeable impact on the economy. Area restaurants and hotels should be the most effected; however, all retailers should feel a positive trickledown effect from the spending from the participants of the tournament.

Over the years this tournament has grown leaps and bounds. In 2005, the Labatt Blue USAdult Hockey Classic had 20 teams.

Stadium Management Company owns the Wings Stadium Complex, the Kalamazoo Wings hockey team, Wings West and the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings hockey team. The Wings Stadium Complex is comprised of three buildings; Wings Stadium seats more than 5,100 fans for K-Wings home games and more than 6,000 people for concerts and other stage events. The Annex seats 1,367 for ice events and can seat up to 2,850 for non-ice events such as car, boat, and trade shows. The Cube is the newer of the three facilities and plays host to both ice and non-ice events. All three buildings along with the newly acquired and named Wings West facility are available for rental and feature numerous catering and meeting opportunities.

For more information regarding the Annual Labatt Blue USAdult Hockey Classic, please contact Mike Modugno, director of public relations and broadcaster at (269) 345-1125, extension 220.
