Kalamazoo, MI- Wings Stadium, which is also home to The Annex and The Cube, announces they have been chosen as the host site for the 2010 U.S. Curling National Championships.
After two site visits from the U.S. Curling Association, the city of Kalamazoo and Wings Stadium have been chosen to host this grand event and will have the eyes of American curling focused on them from March 6th-13th, 2010.
“This event will not only have a significant impact on our facility, but also our community,” said Wings Stadium President Paul L. Pickard. “The national recognition and the excitement that will come with this event, especially being held right after the 2010 Winter Olympics will put us in the spotlight.”
Being selected to host the national championships for both men and women, the event will have a sizeable impact on the local economy. Area restaurants and hotels should be the most affected; however, all retailers should feel a positive trickle down effect from the week long extravaganza.
"We are extremely excited to host the 2010 USA Curling National Championships,” said Kalamazoo County Convention & Visitors Bureau President Greg Ayers. “This event adds to the resume of great sports events held in Kalamazoo. Wings Stadium will be a terrific venue for our visitors from throughout the country.”
While the national championships will be held at Wings Stadium, the process of getting the event to Kalamazoo was surely a team effort.
“Successfully capturing this event for our city was a combined effort from our staff, the Kalamazoo County Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Kalamazoo Curling Club,” said Pickard. “I feel the way the CVB highlighted our city during the site visits, coupled with the emergence and enthusiasm of the Kalamazoo Curling Club, and everything our facility has to offer, made a lasting impression to the U.S. Curling Association.”
Securing host site status, the Wings Stadium Complex will now start their preparation for the 2010 National Championships.
