Kalamazoo, MI- Last second heroics in regulation for the Kalamazoo Wings weren’t enough to secure two points in the standings, as the Cincinnati Cyclones earned a 3-2 shootout victory at Wings Stadium.
Hours after being activated off the injured reserve and named assistant captain, forward Mathieu Curadeau showed he will lead by example. Battling in front of the net, Curadeau (15th) knocked in a third chance opportunity late in the period to give the lead to Kalamazoo.
Scoring the equalizer in the second stanza, Jimmy Kilpatrick won a right-circle face-off to the blade of Dustin Sproat (13th), who lifted the puck over the shoulder of Jeremy Duchesne.
The last 20 minutes of the contest looked ominous for the K-Wings as Brett Robinson notched his 11th goal of the campaign on a power-play from Brett Motherwell and Matt Pierce to give the Cyclones a one-goal lead.
Rick Cleaver (18th) kept the hopes alive for all 3,719 fans here at K-Wings Stadium as he found the back of the net with only 30 seconds remaining in the final stanza on a shot from the point off of the stick of Jon Landry.
The overtime period proved to be somewhat uneventful as the four-on-four session did not result in a game-winner for either squad.
Outscoring Kalamazoo 4-3 in the shootout, Cincinnati out-lasted the K-Wings in the extra session to escape Wings Stadium with the shootout victory.
The victory extended the Cyclones winning streak to three games, while lengthening the K-Wings unbeaten streak at Wings Stadium to seven games (6-0-0-1)
